The New Hampshire Asylum for the Insane was originally chartered by the state legislature in 1838 after a number of philanthropists had grown concerned at the conditions of the state's mentally ill population. Eager to provide the best life possible, donors ensured that the building was equipped with comfortable patient rooms, a dining room, business rooms, sleeping quarters for staff, and a chapel. The name of the facility was later changed to simply the New Hampshire State Hospital in 1901. This pamphlet is an annual report to the legislature on the activity and financial records of the institution. COLPAP-0907-RT21
