Description: The CSS Tennessee was an ironclad ram built for the Confederate Navy during the Civil War, commissioned in February 1864 and serving as the flagship for Admiral Franklin Buchanan. In August of 1864, Admiral Buchanan sailed her into combat against Admiral David G. Farragut's fleet where she would ultimately be forced to surrender. She would later be commissioned as the USS Tennessee, participating in the Siege of Fort Morgan and serving on the Mississippi River before ultimately being decommissioned in 1865. Though she was sold for scrap in 1867, a number of her guns survive and are on display in Washington DC, Virginia, and Alabama.Though named Tennessee, she was a product of Alabama, laid down in Selma and fitted in Mobile. She is shown here sailing under a Confederate flag with commission pennant at full steam, a few buildings visible in the background. Painted on a wood panel and initialed in the corner HWD. A handwritten tag on the back in blue pen titles the piece "Tennessee" by H. Willard Davies, 1907. Modern frame, black and gold with wire to hang. Board measures approximately 21 1/8 inches long and 10 inches tall, framed to 23 3/4 inches long and 12 5/8 inches tall. Excellent antique condition: age darkening as expected, lovely colors, some minor edge wear from previous frame, minor scratches on frame as shown. Please see photos for further information on condition. Attention eBay Buyers:I do my best to accurately describe items listed for sale. Any chips, cracks, tears, stains or other noticeable damage will be listed in the description. If no damages or defects are listed above, it is because I didn't see any and the item is in very good condition. Please look carefully at the photos, as they are considered to be part of the description! Many of the items I list are from estate, household, and yard sales and are priced low accordingly, but occasionally a flaw or defect may be overlooked or damage may occur during shipping. Some items may not have been tested to make sure they work properly. I try to note that in the description. Feel free to ask for more information prior to bidding, and I will answer to the best of my ability. If you are not 100% satisfied, do not hesitate to contact me. I will do my best to resolve the problem.Payment:Payment to confirmed PayPal addresses only, please; no exceptions. Payment is due within 3 days of the close of the auction. Payment later than that will interfere with our shipping schedule and may result in your package not being shipped until the next batch. Florida residents, add 7% sales tax or a valid 2023 Florida State Resale certificate. Shipping: The shipping cost is shown in the shipping section of the listing. This is the shipping cost you are asked to pay. All prices are based on ACTUAL USPS rates and do not include a handling charge. Sometimes, depending on your location, Priority Mail is feasible at the amount paid, in which case your item will be shipped that way. If you feel the shipping charge is too high, contact me prior to bidding, and I may be able to make an adjustment. If you would like your item shipped by another method (UPS, FedEx, etc), contact me and I will try to accommodate your request. We are happy to combine items to reduce shipping when it doesn't compromise the safety of the items being shipped. Please note that some heavier items may require additional shipping costs west of the Mississippi River; please contact me for a revised shipping quote.Handling:Each item is carefully packaged to ensure safe arrival at its destination. With the cost of boxes, bubble wrap, peanuts, tape, etc., I often spend more on shipping/handling than the buyer is charged. I usually ship within two business days of the close of auction. I will notify you if it will run later than that for any reason.
