Description: I have for sale a souvenir medal for the 1909 Hudson-Fulton celebration. The medal was a joint project of the American Numismatic Society and the Hudson-Fulton Celebration commission to mark the Hendrik Hudson tercentenary of the exploration of the New York Harbor and the Hudson River plus the centennial of the first steam navigation of the Hudson River by Robert Fulton's North River Steamboat in 1807. The medal was issued by the A.N.S. and it was designed by Emil Fuchs and struck by the Whitehead & Hoag company. The medal is made of aluminum, it is two inches in diameter and in uncirculated condition with a tiny ding above the sailor's hat. The medal obverse shows Hendrik Hudson and crew members on the deck of the Half Moon. At the rim on the top half of the obverse it reads DISCOVERY OF HUDSON RIVER BY HENRY HUDSON A-D MDCIX. To the bottom left of the obverse rim it reads THE AMERICAN - NMISMATIC SOCIETY & to the bottom left it reads HUDSON-FULTON - CELEBRATION COMM: At the bottom rim it shows a small ship and reads HALVE MAENE.
