Description: 1960 incoming Algerian taxed mail / early Israeli Lira tax franking: 20 Jan 1960 postmarked airmail cover from ORAN to JERUSALEM franked at 100 Francs using French postage stamps (as was possible in Algeria between 1958-1962) - but the cover was underfranked at 100Fr: this short payment was probably noticed during transit in France as cover was stamped by a French triangular tax cachet & manuscript charged 0.30 gold centimes for twice the deficiency. Machine backstamped 22 Jan JERUSALEM transit-arrival. As of 6 Jan. 1960 Israel's currency was redenominated from fractional 1/1000 Prutot per Lira to 1/100 Agorot per Lira: here, the Israeli post office converted the gold centimes fee using the newly revised exchange rate of 0.6ag : 1g ctm (versus 6 prutot : 1 gctm as before), yielding a calculated postage dues tax of 18 agorot, levied & paid on 24 Jan using 0.12L & 0.03L 1960 Provisionals Ba #181/183 franks (2 weeks after 1st day of use 6 Jan. 1960) & tied by JERUSALEM-2(?) cancel; backstamped same day JERUSALEM-18 delivery; cut open at left, very fine and well documented.
