Eighty percent of the fishing is carries out from pirogues, dugout canoes of baobab or kapok trees, using lines or nets. The fish, Senegal's chief economic resource, mainly goes to the local market: tuna, sardines, and cod are sold right off the beach at the landing points of the piroques.
