Description: I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only new, full-size copies of PLANS + construction article for Cal Smith's 58" span AERONCA CHAMPION RC model airplane. S. Calhoun Smith was one of the most prolific model plane designers who ever lived. After WW 2 service in the Air Force as a pilot, so many of his models were published in Air Trails and Mechanix Illustrated that entire books were put into print---such as "Cal Smith on Model Building". Here is his early-days-of-rc models the AERONCA CHAMPION. This model has a 58" span, 43-1/4" length and 623 sq inches of wing area. This 2" to the foot scale model came out in 1956 as a Monarch Model Aircraft Company kit. I include a copy of the construction article. It was a single channel, rudder-only scale model, so the dihedral is such that it is very, very stable. It needed only a K & B Glo Torp .19 or .23 for power and used a 10-4 prop. However, when you produce it today as a 3-channel big, big model, a nice .25 to .30 engine will be adequate indeed.
