Description: The detail within this piece is crisp and quite stunning. The late, Al Mettel, was a prolific artist. Although he passed from this life long ago, his work continues to grace us with reminders of his beautiful compositions. The artist was a lifetime traveler. When he found a building, landscape or scene that moved him, he would take the time to sketch it and later paint works that are filled with inspiration today. His work has long outlived the artist. Al Mettel, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1913. His birth name was, William M. Spierer. I do not know the reason for the name change. Was it an adoption or an unhappy experience as a youngster. Or was the name Al Mettel, simply a better (and more memorable) artist's name? None of the biographical information I have found gives any indication. Although the time of his death is not in dispute -- The artist's age at his age at death is something of a mystery. Some biographies have him much older at his passing. But the information I have found seems to be reliable. The one certainty is that the time of his passing was in 1965, in Tucson, Arizona, 59 years ago. If it is factual that he was born in 1913, he would have been 52 years old at his death. It was a short life, but it was very long with impact on the world he left behind. Most every painting you will see by the artist began it's life as an etching. From the etching color would be added. What you see in the listing is a print. His signature appears in the lower right corner, and the title of this work in the lower left corner. As to the age of this print I don't know. I would suspect it to be from the 1950's. But I cannot verify that as there is no date given to this print. That said, the colors are rich and to my eye, un-faded. The Havana Cathedral still stands in Cuba today. It was built in 1777. There are many photos and history records of this cathedral. Although the building process began in 1777, it took some 30 years for it's full completion. That said, parts of the cathedral were believed to be in service well before the entirety of the cathedral was complete. I have provided many high resolution photos so that you can zoom in and check every detail regarding this artwork and the frame that protects it and adorns the artwork. All of the photos were taken outside where there was an abundance of light and the best opportunity to showcase the colors and the details of this artwork. The frame has been refinished in my woodworking shop. The frame color is a light grey with just a hint of blue tones. The frame measures: 11 inches in width, by 14 1/8 inches in height. The frame is a standard size with an inside opening measurement of 9 by 12 inches. The frame is rock solid structurally. I would rate the cosmetic condition of the frame a solid 9 of 10. I will package this artwork with great care for shipping. Shipping by: USPS., or FedEx. Shipping throughout the lower 48 states.
