This is Anthony Davis's Group with addition of Sam Jaffe - Guitar, Ray Anderson - Trombone, & James Newton - Flute Before trying his hand at classical concertos and operas, Anthony Davis recorded a dozen albums between 1978 and 1986 (some of them collaborations, five of them still waiting for reissue on CD), all of them fine, some even great. Anyone into his music will know that this is one of his greatest. Anthony Davis (born February 20, 1951) is an American pianist and composer. He incorporates several styles including jazz, rhythm 'n' blues, gospel, non-Western, African, European classical, Indonesian gamelan, and experimental music. He has played with several groups and is also professor of music at University of California, San Diego. James W. Newton (born May 1, 1953) is an American jazz and classical flutist. Ray Anderson (born October 16, 1952) is an American jazz trombonist. Trained by the Chicago Symphony trombonists, he is regarded as someone who pushes the limits of the instrument, including performing on alto trombone and slide trumpet. He is a colleague of trombonist George E. Lewis. Anderson also plays sousaphone and sings. He was frequently chosen in DownBeatmagazine's Critics Poll as best trombonist throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s
