Ambersmoke Cassette Lot (Have A Nice Life, Planning For Burial, Grave Saddle)

Description: Are you a poser? Would you like to pretend that you were a part of a scene approximately nobody cares about? Well boy howdy do I have an opportunity for you! For sale are 16 releases (14 tapes, 1 VHS, 1 zine) by Ambersmoke, a defunct, highly prolific, intentionally underground black metal/shoegaze act from California. Formed in 2010, Ambersmoke would go on to release dozens of extremely limited cassette recordings for almost a decade. Many were distributed in unconventional ways. Their first tape could only be purchased by sending the band “...a specific amount in coins minted prior to a certain year and postmarked on a particular day of the week” as an emblematic example. Others were buried. Eventually, the band’s primary label, Bone Orchard, would open a plaintext website (the defunct boneorchard.info) where they accepted orders via email. Tragically, the band eventually stooped to more traditional means of distribution and opened a Bigcartel store. The band is aesthetically and sonically at home among the Enemies List Home Recordings and Music Ruins Lives (RIP 2010-2014) lineups. Fans of Have a Nice Life demos and, especially, Planning for Burial will probably enjoy what’s on offer. Ambersmoke was the solo-project of Chris Broyles (otherwise best known for his involvement in the band Airs – also quite good) before being joined by Cameron Puleo (also of Airs) in, I believe, 2015. Initially, this music was intended to remain analog only. However, most of what’s on offer in this lot has recently been made available on the band’s Bandcamp page. I encourage you to try before you buy. Aside from Gloom Tapestries, I am the original owner of everything for sale in this lot. Everything has been well cared for. None of the tapes have been played more than a handful of times. Many of these tapes have not been listed for sale on the secondary market in years. Some have never been listed at all, such as Nothing Touches You Anymore, the companion piece to the bands most popular record Une femme est une femme (with a whopping 396 ratings on RateYourMusic at the time of writing – Wow!). As a fun bonus, I’ll include a few more related tapes such as Adore by Airs (their best record), Eroguro Neurosis by Vuota (solo project of Aaron Kelly, member of Airs), and Good Things Don’t Happen (a SalopeCassette compilation).
