Description: This is the original (1sh) 1981 movie poster AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. It was used to promote the film in theatres when it was released by Universal in 1981 It is not a reprint nor a reproduction. The movie stars David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne, John Woodvine, Lila Kaye, Brian Glover, Frank Oz, Rik Mayall, Linzi Drew, Susan Spencer, Albert Moses, Mary Tempest, Michael Carter, Gypsy Dave Cooper, and Lucien Morgan. It was directed by John Landis. This restored movie poster is Rolled and linen backed. The poster measures 27" x 41". The poster was rolled once it was linen backed. With the linen backing, it now measures about 1/2 to 1" extra all around. If you need the exact dimensions of the size with the linen, just let me know. This poster was originally Folded. Almost all original movie posters pre-1985 are Folded. This is not considered a flaw or defect.This Restored movie poster is graded C8.5, or Very Fine to Near Mint. This grade is generally the highest grade a restored original movie poster can receive, as is the policy of a major original movie poster dealer. A policy I also follow. Original movie posters are graded, from the top down, as C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Very Good to Very Fine), C6 (Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), etc. It is difficult to find any C10 (Mint) original movie posters pre-1985. Prior to restoration this poster was graded a C7.5 Very Fine Minus. Restoration corrected/repaired wear along the Fold lines with some white showing through, minor creases in the image area, small chips and tears along the borders, wear at the cross-Folds (a cross Fold being where a vertical Fold line meets the horizontal Fold line), and wear at the corner tips. The poster now displays beautifully. The main issue with this original 1981 movie poster of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON - at least that I see all the time - is that the Fold lines are very prominent on the image are of the poster. That is because of the generally black background so any wear at the Fold lines, which removes the black background color and lets some white show thru from underneath - is very evident on almost all Folded originals for this Title. The only way (really) to avoid that is to find the very rare ROLLED version of the original 1981 AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON poster. And I mean RARE! In having this Folded version of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON restored, we attempted - and succeeded- in eliminating the visibility of these Fold lines to any practical extent. They now can only be seen by very close inspection under bright light - and somewhat viewing at an angle. And the Fold lines no longer show any white and are now black and blend in perfectly with the rest of the black background and images - the Fold lines no longer exhibit wear or any white on that deep black background. For this reason, the price will be higher than the normal Folded original poster of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON that show Fold wear and whiteness on the Fold lines on that black background and on the images. Of course, the other restorations made to the poster also increase its' value. For the originals that I sell, I often have them restored and linen backed in order to give you the best of both worlds - an original movie poster in superior condition without all of the above-mentioned flaws. I know some collectors feel that restoration destroys the "authenticity" of a poster, and they have a good point. But I still have them restored. I don't think there are too many fans and collectors of original movie posters that want to display an original movie poster that is full of stains, tears, missing paper, Fold separations, Fold wear, etc. We believe that the original 1981 movie poster AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON has great value and great investment value. We do see - on the internet - other 1981 originals of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON but they always exhibit or have noticeable whitish Fold lines, not to mention (sometimes) other Flaws. Most of the other originals for this Title are graded less than C8.5. Very Fine/Near Mint. Thus, the high grade of C8.5 Very Fine/Near Mint on this original increases its value and investment value. In addition, the linen backing will help to maintain the integrity of the poster.
