Description: Antique 1858 Silver 3 Cent Piece 3c Encased In Laminated Information Card. Nice to have the story: the US mint introduced the 3 cent coin in 1851 because the cost of a stamp had been reduced (imagine!) from 5 cents to 3 cents and merchants were finding it difficult to make change. Making the 3 cent coin to enable purchase of 3 cent stamps solved the problem. Card measures 9" x 4 7/8". 3 cent piece measures 5/8" in diameter.
