Fantastic antique photograph featuring local San Francisco, California city league farm teams. The documentation written on the back is fantastic and helped greatly with the research on this. The two teams are the City Engineers and the U.R.R Engineers (Geneva Ave uniforms). This picture was taken on Nov. 3, 1912 before a baseball game between the two teams at Point Lobos Square. It looks like there is a stadium in the back top of the image. I couldn't find any references to a Point Lobos baseball stadium or facility (but it could have changed names or been demolished over time). I did find both Point Lobos Avenue and Geneva Avenue in San Francisco. The umpire in this picture also has a "SF" patch on his sleeve. This a great confirmation combined with the information on the back. Writing on the back in ink pen reads: Group showing the two rival teams City Engineers against the U.R.R Engineers Played first Sunday in November, 1912 at the Point Lobos Square.Battenes, Stanley, Lundy & Brown (City)Duthers & Zimmerman (U.R.R.) Great snapshot in time with men in bowlers and flat caps/newboy caps. The uniforms are really neat. I love the striped socks and sleeves that a few are wearing. I don't see any bats, but several of the men are wearing or holding their gloves. The image is, I believe, a cepia-tone black and white photograph. It is mounted on a thick cardboard backing. Sometimes referred to as a cabinet card. There is damage on the cardboard in 3 out of the 4 corners. (see photos). It's not too bad, but it is there. The card had slightly bowed in the center, but again not badly. The cursive writing on the back is pretty clear, although I might have mispelled some of the names listed. Will be packed and shipped in a box for safe transport. This is a great opportunity for anyone who collects vintage baseball memorabilia.
