Description: Single Chinese Scene Bookendc1920's - 1930's This wonderfully carved single bookend is in high relief and is wonderfully detailed. It features a village scene with huts in the far background, a pagoda in the middle ground and trees in the foreground. Depicting what appears to be a market scene with villagers negotiating. The detail in the carving is quite nice and deep and the modeling of the figures effective. The back is painted a traditional red, while the front is painted in gold, the bottom has an iron plate for extra weight. It is an unusual and very decorative example. Size: 6.75 inches tall5.75 inches wide & 2 inches deep.Nice Condition, original paint, small break top right, iron metal plate on bottom has some rust,small chip and split bottom front edge.
