Description: Original 19th century Chinese jian short sword. Measures approximately 22-1/2" in overall length. Blade measures 16-1/2" long and is 1-3/16" at widest point. Blade is sharp on both sides. Brass crossguard and pommel with bat motif. Fluted wood handle. There are a couple of small chips in the handle and a hole that goes through it for some type of lanyard or tassel. Fabric covered wood scabbard with brass mounts that match motif on the sword handle. This was part of the collection of the late Dr. Richard Stein. I purchased this part of the collection from the inheritor. He was a prominent knife collector and owner of the Japanese sword index website. See photos for details. Please ask any other questions
