Description: Very early Federal Styled Gold Gilt mirror with great reverse painted scene. The painting shows a young woman looking out to sea for a ship to come in. In her hands she holds a brass spyglass. Maybe she is "Waiting for her sailor to return from the sea". Well painted glass panel is in very good condition with only very minor losses. It looks like the gold gilding is mostly original and may have had some small minor touch ups. Three of the gold balls at the top have been replaced. The replacements are slightly smaller than the originals, but the repair looks great. The upper corners have been repaired but it is in great shape for something that is over 200 years old. The mirror itself looks like the original and has a cracked piece of glass in the lower right corner. The silvering has some fade and discoloration but you can still see a good reflection. When I look deep within the old mirror I wonder how many people have done the same thing over the years. The mirror and frame is 33" high and 20 wide at the widest part of the top. The rest of the frame is 16” wide.
