Description: An exquisite bronze sculpture by renown artist August Moreau 1834-1917. 6" x 5.5" x 3.5" at 4.5 Lbs. If my classical mythology is correct this is a representation of one of Vulcan's cherubs who assisted him fabricating armor for the gods. The cherub is putting the final touches on a Greco/Roman helmet and you can see the focus and effort on the cherub's face. He is hammering in the last rivet on the helmet's edge and using such force that the hammer is bending from the effort. This sculpture was cast during Moreau's lifetime and is an original. Numbered 301 and dated in ink 2/ 890. That is February 1890. The signature on the outside base also shows the number 301. Fabulous patina and completely intact. I purchased this from a Knighted British citizen's collection over 10 years ago. A kind of "Lord" if you will. Almost every Moreau bronze on EBay is a licensed copy. This is an original.
