Description: For sale today a very rare item, with some significant caveats.Benotto Cambio Corsa frame/fork:57cm seat-tube center-to-top-of top tube58.5cm seat tube center-to-very-top of the seat tube56.5cm top-tube center-center115mm rear dropout spacingThis Benotto frame and fork is designed for the early Campagnolo Cambio Corsa shifting system. The frame dates from the 1940s most likely. This spectacular repaint duplicates the period-correct look of these frames. The pictures do not do it justice unfortunately, in person it's stunning. Fine silver with candy blue panels and Gus Salmon's beautiful period-corrent graphics. Includes the original brass headbadge as partially shown in the pics. I just forgot to shoot it!The frame has two issues, neither of which are significant in use. First, it has been in a mild header at some point in its life. There is a very light ripple on the bottom of the down tube just below the lower head-lug. No other ripple or bulge can be found in the top tube or elsewhere. The fork is almost certainly not original, but it is in excellent condition and likely of the period, a good match for the frame. The head angle is a bit steeper than designed as a result of this, but in use is no problem.Second, at some point in the distant past, the drive side chainstay developed a crack, which was repaired by brazing. It looks and feels very solid. This happened with these frames occasionally, mostly because of the deep crease made for wheel clearances. I would have no fear of riding it at all, just keep an eye on it, but it's likely to outlast all of us.You could respace the rear dropouts and make it into a very cool fixed-gear road bike, or even put a modern derailleur on it. Normal road wheels will fit into the dropouts with some care and/or with light filing on the ends of the rear axle. The rear dropouts would need to be respaced for that however unless you shorten a standard rear axle. Or you could find the Cambio Corsa derailleur and correct splined rear axle and built it as it was originally. The wheels shown and the rubber rings holding the fork to the frame are NOT INCLUDED. You get the frame, and fork.My asking price is far less than the cost of the repaint and chroming.Feel free to ask any questions you may have. This item is for sale locally on another platform. Thanks for lookin'!
