Description: Alebrijes, which are Mexico's fantastic, imaginative figures, are made of copal wood, hand carved and painted, often by the collective effort of whole families from wood-carving towns in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Oaxaca's wood carvings are collected world-wide and are exhibited in galleries and museums. This fantastic large creation by Samuel Munoz is part cat and part armadillo. The face and body, in a rich blue with designs is that of a standing cat. This cat has a beautifully carved, ridged armadillo shell on the back and a wonderful armadillo tail. The shell is covered with very detailed designs in alternating colors - each color boasting a different design. The removable tail is also carved with ridges and is painted with a series of colors, each with medium dot colorful designs. This fabulous piece is approximately 9 1/2" tall and 7 1/2" long. This cat is a high quality collecter's item - a one of a kind piece!
