Description: For your consideration is a sad iron made by the Colebrookdale Iron Company of Boyertown, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. This iron has a curved wooden handle, that is attached to a cast iron and steel device. This type sad iron usually came in sets of three irons and one handle, so one iron could be used while the other two were various degrees of hot. They were heated by a stove or other device that burned wood or kerosene. This was in the days before perma-press and a very large percentage of clothing had to be starched and ironed. Sad iron sets similar to this, first received a Patent on May 24, 1870 and were manufactured into the 1900s. After the original Patent expired, they were manufactured by several different companies. From point to point, the length is 6 1/4" and the maximum width is slightly more than 2 7/8".This sad iron is an old item (late 1800s or early 1900s) that was used. The wooden handle has several cracks. All parts need to be cleaned. Please, carefully examine the pictures, as the pictures are part of the description.
