Description: Vintage EDISON FOUNTAIN PEN eyedropper baby ART DECO overlay marked PETERSBURG VA 8½F This pen has a small ring on end for attaching to chain. The lever is marked EDISON. The rim of the lower part of the pen is marked EDISON FOUNTAIN PEN.The nib is marked EDISON 2. The bottom of the pen is marked 8 ½ F.From some online info: Edison assembled fountain pens from parts purchased from suppliers until the 1920s when they began their own manufacturing. They produced some lever fill pens. As for the Petersburg connection, the company was located at 219 Washington Streeet in the 1910-1930s and 16 N. Union St. in the 1940s.In a 1921 Richmond, VA newspaper the Edison Pen company of Petersburg VA advertised for a salesman to sell their high grade line of pens and pencils on a commission basis. The pen is similar to the gold filled filigree Parker eyedropper pens. From an online vintage Parker catalog, the early pens with the rings were 'baby' pens. The ones with overlays were advertised as gold rolled mountings (i.e. gold filled). But I can't say for sure just where the pen parts were manufactured. I'm also not sure what the 8½F means. Fun to research. The pen is in used condition. It has some wear / scuffs / scratches. The nib is old and may need replacing. The lever works good. Sold as found.
