Elio Revé, born in Guantánamo, in 1930, was a timbalero and percussionist extraordinaire, that traveled the planet showcasing his outstanding abilities and playing Changui, besides being an educator of the origins of Popular Cuban music. In 1954, Elio Revé formed his orchestra to popularize his style of playing Changui, a Cuban rythm predecesor to the Salsa. Critics and historian of Cuban music mentioned that La Orquesta de Elio Revé was a university of the Cuban Salsa, where young musicians would practiced their art until mastering their control of the Cuban music, with graduates like: Juan Formel, Bebo Valdez, Yumuri, Pichi, Juan Carlos Alfonso, and a long list list of stellar Cuban musicians. Elio admired the musicians of the Estrellas Fania and other Puertorican groups. Unfortunately Elio Revé passed away in 1997. His musical heritage is still with us in recordings like this one. The music is Afro-Cuban, Descarga, Changui, and Latin Jazz dancing music at its best. You can see the titles of the tracks on the photos provided. I took the photos thru the plastic bag that contains the LP.The title of the LP is Orquesta Reve "La Explosion Del Momento." Elio Revé and his musicians traveled to Peru as part of a cultural exchange agreement s between the governments of Cuba and Peru. To my knowledge, there is also an original recording by Elio Revé, recorded in Lima, Peru, titled "From Havana To Lima," that is extremely rare. This is the 1987 edition on the Peruvian label IEMPSA. This record comes from a collection of old stock, factory sealed, records found in Los Angeles, California. The LP is inside a sealed plastic bag, indicating it has never been played. It is easier to find gold than a vintage LP in this unique condition. The cover has small blemishes for being in cardboard boxes for many years (see photo).
