Description: You will receive a packet of 20 Seeds from our Forked Bluecurls growing in sunny Florida. Home grown naturally using regenerative growing methods with lots of love and zero chemicals, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. The seeds are from our most recent harvest and are fresh viable seeds ready to plant. Growing Info & TipsForked Bluecurls (Trichostema dichotomum) are an herbaceous annual with the daintiest pretty blue curled flowers you ever did see. They are considered native from Florida up to southern Maine and west to Texas and north of Missouri & Michigan. Growing well in Zones 7-11 they are easy to establish and maintain. Forked Bluecurls favor average sandy soil that’s well drained in sun to part shade. They will grow to be a small bush about 3-4f tall and 2-3dt wide. If we get a cold winter they will die back but usually come back in the spring and they easily self-seed around where they are planted! Being in the mint family, the leaves have a nice aroma to the when touched. The tiny yet beautiful blooms appear in summer through fall (& sometimes into early winter if it’s a warmer one I’ve found). It’s best to catch the gorgeous blooms in the morning hours when they first open, as by late afternoon they tend to drop some petals and stamens. A wonderful nectar producer for the pollinators to enjoy! For Sowing the Forked Bluecurls Seeds:Sow seeds after the chance of frost has past. Seeds can be sown directly in the ground or in pots or seed starting trays. Sow the seeds close to the surface, around 1/4th of an inch deep (lightly covering them) in pre-moistened potting mix with some native sandy soil mixed in. Keep soil moist but well drained in partial shade until germination. Forked Bluecurl seeds can take 14-30 days to germinate so please be patient. When transplanting or direct sowing, spacing them a foot or two apart is ideal as when mature they can reach 3-4ft in height and 2-3ft wide. They will begin flowering in summer through fall. If a cold winter, it will die back but just leave it and prune in spring and they usually come back. It will readily re-seed around where it’s planted each year. UsesIn addition to being beautiful in the garden, I love to preserve and press these flowers for creative projects. I have not found any studies or text available as far traditional and/or consumable uses. Please Note: All of my seeds are fresh and viable. Growing plants from seeds is fun! The majority of the time it is a success but sometimes it’s not. This just is the way it is with nature and gardening.
