Description: Description Gibson Murphy Lab 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Sunrise Tea Burst Ultra Light Aged [S/N 941572] A beautiful 1959 Les Paul with a hand-selected top! ~ Murphy Lab ~ Murphy Lab, which was established within the custom shop, is a new laboratory at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville. It specializes in aging guitars (a process that reproduces the appearance and feel of vintage guitars that change over time) using the latest technology based on scientific verification. Tom Murphy, who was a member of the Gibson Custom Shop when it was first established and worked hard as a project leader for the development of the Historic Collection, has since been active in the technique of aging, which gives new guitars a vintage look and feel. Tom's passion for vintage guitars and his deep knowledge of them allow him to perfectly reproduce the natural lacquer cracks and wear caused by playing Gibson guitars. Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquer of the 1950s and 1960s, which causes cracks called weather checking over time, unraveled the process of change, and developed a lacquer process that reproduces the natural weather checking of vintage guitars through repeated testing of prototypes of various models. The idea for Murphy Lab was born when Tom Murphy led the Gibson Custom Shop team and began to test various body shapes, finishes, and aging levels based on prototypes. As a result, it was established within the Gibson Custom Shop to perform aging with unprecedented realism and attention to detail. Tom Murphy's existence and his artistic works have played an important role in Gibson's history, and will continue to be passed down forever as Murphy Lab. This model is the lightest of the four aging levels, "Ultra Light Aged". The entire weather check has been aged with slight dents, giving it a finish that looks as if it has been carefully stored. The pickups are made from the Custom Shop's standard "Custombucker Alnico III". The unique bite is reminiscent of the Les Paul you've heard on record. Equipped with a newly installed Bumblebee type paper oil capacitor and a 500K CTS pot that pursues a vintage curve. Compared to a regular 500kΩ pot, the high frequencies are not cut off as much when the volume is turned down, so you can freely control everything from clean to drive sounds with the controls at your fingertips. Distortion is maintained from the 10 to 6 memory, and smoothly decreases from 6 to 1, allowing for expressive playing depending on the length of the volume control.
