Description: Rare and stunning Gouda Inkwell made at the Arnhem Holland factory. It stands approx. 4 inches high, the saucer diameter is 5 and 1/4 inches and the inkwell width under the lid is 2 and 1/4 inches. Nice, vibrant muted colors indicative of the era and the insert included fits perfectly. The lid rests on the opening properly. The Arnhem factory was one of the major producers of Gouda style pottery along with PZH, Regina, Ivora and Schoonhoven. The inkwell is marked with the artist's initials GVK, the mold number 452 and pattern name Astra and the Arnhem Holland factory. According to Ritvo's "The World of Gouda Pottery" on pages 128 and 129, Arnhem did not appear to have dated its products, started to make dark bordered pottery around 1918 and the factory closed in 1928. Thus, a reasonable estimate of the manufacturing date of this inkwell is between 1918 and 1928. Also, Astra was one of the pattern names in this era per Ritvo and the semi matte finish and abstract floral colors are typical of an Arnhem product. I will ship via USPS and the inkwell will be safely and securely packaged. Please see my feedback and bid with confidence.
