Description: Rare Heuer Chronograph, circa 1960s, reference 409, in superb working condition. Accompanied by two service receipts from reputable independent watchmakers totalling £594.00, the first dated 25/11/22 for £450, and the second more recent dated 7/1/25 for £144. A truly collectors time piece, ready to wear and enjoy! A silvered dial with gilt accents helps this 1960’s racer chronograph stand out. Heuer has a rich history of tool watch production. Whether it's stopwatches or chronographs, the Swiss brand knows a thing or two about timing events, particularly of the sporting variety. This early 1960s chronograph features a silver dial, lume filled hands, and engine-turned sub-dials that line up nicely with the central axis of the hands. Overall, it has a very balanced aesthetic. The sub-dials on this example are beautifully balanced for maximum legibility. This watch has a 34.5mm case size, which is quite substantial for the time. It is 8mm thick and has a screw-back case, granting the watch a better-than-expected wrist presence. Housed in a 34.5mm gold plated stainless steel muscular-shaped case with downturned lugs that curve over your wrist for a comfortable fit. The watch's lug-to-lug length of 41mm and case thickness of 8mm give it an impressive wrist presence. The Original Dial: Silver dial signed “Heuer,” made in Switzerland, featuring raised gilt baton hour markers paired with matching lume-filled sword hands and a sweeping spear seconds hand. The engine-turned sub-dials are fully functional and reset accurately. The chapter ring includes minute indices and triangular lume-filled hour markers, completing the classic design. Dial has marks commensurate with age and wear, please observe photographs. The Original Case: Steel gold plated case is in solid condition for the age - Has surface scratches and some plating wear to the edges associated with plated stainless steel commensurate with wear and age. Lugs are in good condition for age. Please observe photographs. The Original Case Back Cover Outer: Stainless Steel screw back cover fits flush. Has surface scratches associated with stainless steel commensurate with age and wear. In solid condition with plenty of depth. The Original Perspex Crystal: Crystal is in good condition. The Crown/Pushers: Tooth crown unsigned, in excellent working order, a later generic service replacement. Pushers are in good functioning order however appear to be generic aftermarket replacements. Original Movement: High grade Valjoux 23 movement signed ED. HEUER & CO SA SWISS 17 JEWELS UNADJUSTED. Specifications; 45 hours power reserve (when new) Frequency : 18,000 A/h.
