This is an impressive large vintage French tapestry wall hanging with a 17th Century hunting scene. It dates from the early to mid 1900's. It is very atmospheric and would be the perfect château chic finishing touch to a country house interior. It depicts a stunning scene of noblemen and women at a hunt. They are riding fine steeds and are accompanied by their huntsmen and dogs. They are superbly attired and are surrounded by a profusion of trees and lush vegetation. The scene is framed by a beautiful border of flowers and berries. The colours are subtle shades of greens, browns, ochres and aubergine with highlights of red in the costumes. The tapestry is woven in cotton. It is very thick and heavy, weighing nearly 4.75 kg. It has a padded appearance which gives relief and definition to the subject matter. It is in good vintage condition with just a little fading to the colours with the passage of time. There are some tiny faint marks (please see photos) along the top edge where it was once attached to a batten. These do not draw the eye or detract from the appearance of this wonderful tapestry. The tapestry measures :- 193 cm (6 ft 3.9 inches) wide x 188 cm (6 ft 2 inches) high. A fantastic tapestry to add an authentic château chic statement to a room and another divine vintage French textile find from La Belle Étoffe. N.B.
