Description: John Garfield born Jacob Julius Garfinkle [1913 1952] was an American actor who played a brooding, rebellious, working-class characters. Born in New York, in the early 1930's he joined a Theater Group and moved to Hollywood in 1937 where he became one of Warner Bros leading men. Garfield was a popular actor and received two Academy Award nominations in 1938 and 1947. Called to testify before the U.S. Congressional House Committee on Un-American Activities, he denied any communist affiliation and refused to name any other actors, effectively ending his film career. On May 21, 1952, at the age of 39, Garfield died of a heart attack. Listed for auction is the autograph of John Garfield signed on an album page.
