The contacts are Normally Open or Normally Closed, so they can be wired two different ways; depending on which terminal is used: Using the curved "NO" terminal, no current flows through the switch until the button is pressed. Press the button and the light comes on, electric motor starts running, etc. Using the straight "NC" terminal, current flows through the switch continuously until the button is pressed.
