Description: Oh dear! The height of 1960s technology but things have moved on a bit. Let's deal with the crossing first.... If you want a static crossing with a decent HO non-working traffic light and a pair of neat booms, all of which will be on a layout which is out of reach of inquisitive cats and clumsy kids, then look no further. If you are looking for a working automatic crossing -WARNING - yes, the barriers will 'operate' when a train approaches, wildly swinging up and down as if someone has spiked the crossing keeper's cocoa. Yes, the barriers will return to the open position when the train has gone. The locomotive in one of the photos is not included. The non-working warning lights have a fitting which is so delicate, I'd give it 10 minutes on a layout on the floor before they both break off. They have a clever sleeve fitting which needs a doctorate to figure out the assembly, but once assembled, they, er, look nice. Original box. The steam whistle is another story. Connect it to 15 Volts AC. Press the button. A whirring sound like a twin tub washing machine reassures you that the device has burst into life, and when it reaches maximum speed, the motor-driven fan blows air through the 'whistle' and a haunting monotone will sound. It will last as long as you keep the button pressed, or until the motor is burnt out. The wires to the button had to be reconnected, probably because a previous owner cut them, having been driven to the edge of sanity by a malevolent child who sounded the whistle 24/7. It does have a rather fetching 'warehouse' to disguise the mechanism, and if you are modeling Eastern Europe Cold War period, it will blend in nicely. Original box and instructions. I'm looking at $8.95 for the crossing and I'll throw the whistle in free. Honestly, I don't have the nerve to charge money for this beauty. With postage contribution of $7.95, even with the usurious sales tax, you will have change out of that $20 that you've been saving for a rainy day. "Who dares, wins!"
