While this mascot IS made of metal, it is NOT a 'real' car mascot, it is a, Presentation /Gift set, piece, previously available from official Rolls-Royce gift outlets including the new Rolls-Royce factory at Goodwood, England. The Mascot has been 24 ct. Gold plated and looks fantastic. (it is NOT solid gold!). It is an exact representation of the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph/ Phantom/Ghost/Dawn/Wraith and even the current Cullinan, Spirit of Ecstasy, mascot. NOT a Silver Shadow mascot - the Seraph mascot is smaller (as it should be) This gold plated MASCOT also comes with a high quality, CHROME, heavy RR logo'ed badge and CHROME, under-mascot mounting plate, in an RR stamped presentation box. The BOX. Note: While the presentation box is still very nice and tidy, as it's made of paper/card, it's not perfect or mint.Note: Two small screws for the badge and one (too) LONG screw/bolt for the mascot are included. The supplied mascot bolt is too long to hold the mascot on the base without an additional under-base-mount (NOT SUPPLIED), so you can either: 1) Sit the mascot on the base without any bolt. (or with just glue or double-sided tape ?) or 2) Cut the supplied bolt down to size so it sits flush under the slim base when used, or 3) As intended, find a suitable display mount, or nice piece of wood, (NOT SUPPLIED), and bolt the mascot to the base through the mount you supply. The old Silver Shadow mascots are 4 1/2" tall, this Phantom mascot is shorter at just 3 1/2" tall, (which is correct). This mascot is 9 cm tall, 5.2 cm across the arms at the top at its widest and the dome at the base is just about 4 cm in diameter, (the correct size). The chromed square base is 6 cm square and 1 cm high. The separate chromed plaque/badge logo is 2 1/4" inches (5.5 cm) tall and 1 3/8" (3.5 cm) wide. Condition: MINT, new, 100% perfect. In 1911 Royce became gravely ill, he was a workaholic and hardly ever ate properly. The company almost collapsed. He took an extended holiday in Europe and Egypt. He never returned to full time work in Derby, but lived in the South of France during the winters and the south of England. Fortunately for Rolls-Royce this allowed him to concentrate on designing for the future. At about this time it became fashionable to put a mascot on the radiator of your car. Royce wanted a mascot befitting the style of The Best Car in The World. Artist Charles Sykes was commissioned to design a suitable mascot and came up with the Spirit of Ecstasy (The Flying Lady). Its design was patented on February 6th 1911. The model is thought to have been Eleanor Thornton, secretary of Lord Montague. From 1911 this mascot was the suggested and officially approved mascot. Throughout the years, there have been two main versions of the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, a kneeling version, and a standing version. Although reduced to a mere 3 inches today, the standing version of the mascot still adorns Rolls-Royce motorcars. The "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY" mascot celebrated 100 years old on February 6th 2011.
