Description: American Artist (1935-2009) Untitled, but signed drawing (charcoal and red conte pencil) Measures 44 x 30 1/4” Rough edges mostly confined to the bottom of the image’s paper (see pics) Born in New York City on November 2, 1935, Michael Mazur attended the Horace Mann School, Amherst College, and Yale University, where he studied art. Upon his graduation, he worked in painting and printmaking and gained national attention for his large scale prints which were exhibited in 1994 by the University of Iowa. Known especially as an innovator in printmaking, Mazur developed a number of novel techniques for producing monotypes which are the subject of two documentaries and which are available online by searching Michael Mazur. Today, Mazur’s works are considered landmark works and are held in very high regard in both private collections and many major museums. These include the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Art Institute of Chicago; Museum of Modern Art; Whitney Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art; and the Philadelphia Museum, among many others.
