ABOUT THIS BOX This is an amazing early-to-mid-century Thorens music box from Switzerland that has been fully serviced for the next generation. The hardwood box features the iconic inlaid shield and is in great shape. The tunes played are as wonderful as the box itself! Lifting the lid reveals an outstanding, Swiss Thorens 3/50 musical movement -- three songs on FIFTY notes. Thorens is an excellent name in the world of music, and they produced music boxes from 1883 until purchased by Reuge in the 1980’s. The movement is clean and shiny, with some typical oxidation. The box winds up smoothly and works precisely. It switches between the songs effortlessly. These tunes are so very pleasant and are sure to bring you joy. It was cleaned and treated with wood wax and conditioner. It opens and closes perfectly. The finish shows light wear and a few scuffs commensurate with age. Please see the pictures for the issues — and for the beauty of this piece. The music movement was fully serviced — inspected, lightly cleaned and properly lubricated. The sound quality is excellent, as these older boxes amplify the music very well. There are no loud instances of resonance (buzz/squawk) that can occur in vintage boxes.
