Description: ND 17th Century Charles I, Halfcrown Brass Coinweight, Lion & Rose Group, W.1070 A nice example of this English brass coin weight for a silver halfcrown. Weights for Charles I silver coins (produced for halfcrown, shilling and sixpence denominations) are always much harder to find than those for his gold coins. This example is worn but well detailed. Weight 221.8 grains. O: King in armour, wearing crown, scarf flying out from waist, holding sword upright before him, riding left. R: A rose either side of XXX, crowned CR above; below, a large pellet either side of a lion rampant. A crown in upper left field, D in upper right. Listed in Withers, British Coin-Weights as W.1070. I would grade this piece Good Fine (Sheldon VF35) but I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself. For uncertified coins I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers.
