Description: A rare antique 1690s to 1750s French pewter peg lamp base; it would originally have a small lamp that would "peg" into the base.From the time of the French Huguenots. This one has some damage as pictured, but retains its shape and function (priced accordingly). Note the tulip shape of the socket. The stem is hollow and the threads in the socket would be to attach the lamp. Damage as noted and there is a very slight wobble that could be easily fixed if desired as pewter is pliable. Age related small dents present. A neat and rare form. Dimensions:8 1/4" tallBase is about 5 3/8" diameter
