Description: ARTIST: Anna Westphal is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions several times. She started painting at the age of 16 and continued until her death at 92 at a retirement home in Hillerød. She is known to have been very well-liked in the community and to have been a devoted wife and a devoted Christian. She is almost exclusively known for her flower paintings, but one portrait depicting Peder Otto Schmidt is also attributed to her. She supposedly gave King Frederik IX one of her paintings, when he visited the city in which she lived. PAINTING: Oil on board. The painting is an attractive rendering of a vase filled with wild flowers – all of which are relatively common in Danish meadows, ditches etc. I can identify bluebells, poppies, buttercups, clovers, marguerites, ground elders and cornflower. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1935-1945. Signed: Monogram: “A.W.” in the lower right corner. SIZE: With frame: 29,5 cm/11.6" * 23,5 cm/9.3". Without frame: 25,5 cm/10” * 19,5 cm/7.7". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has minor scratches and stains.
