Description: [Black Americana] AN ORIGINAL FAMILY PHOTO ALBUM OF A BLACK AMERICAN FAMILY'S VACATIONS, 1950s/1960s Album measures 15 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. 34 leaves, most with several pictures mounted on both sides. A total of 225 photographs, varying sizes but mostly 3 12/x x 6 inch snapshots. The photos were originally in color but on almost all of the photos, the color has faded out. ALBUM IS DISBOUND. All the pages are loose. The paper is brittle and chipped but should be preserved as the identifications of the photos are written on it. Some photos are loose but 80% are still within their photo mounts. The vast majority of photos are from family vacations in 1948, 1952, and 1955 across the American West and are identified on the album page below the photo. Includes photos of Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, San Diego, Las Vegas, Albuquerque, etc. there are also shots from a trip to Virginia in 1952 and a few of Canadian trips in the 1950s/1960s. The photos are usually of two types - either scenery shots or pictures of family members/friends posing with one one another. People are identified by their first name. The family name is not identified. The album came out of an estate in Baltimore and reputedly is of a Baltimore family. An interesting example of an unknown family of some apparent wealth to take an extended Western vacation in the post-WWII era. In Las Vegas, the family stayed at the famed Moulin Rouge Hotel, the first desegregated casino in Vegas and there are five photos of the short-lived hotel.
