Patent issued to Seymour Rogers of Pittsburgh on March 1, 1870. Made by A. J. Nellis & Co., Pittsburgh, PA. The two spikes in the jaws grab onto the sides of an overhead beam. They then dig into the beam as weight is hung on the downward-pointing single hook. The grapple can be easily moved from one location to another. Making it an ideal lifting tool for a barn or in the outdoors. Measures 17 12" long x 8 3/8" wide with the jaws closed. Measures 13" long x 14 5/8" wide with the jaws fully opened. The jaws open total of 8 1/2" between the points. This has a slight bend as shown in the photos which does not affect Mechanical opening and closing of this unit.
