Description: Ye-Olde Photos Collection Quincy Massachusetts - Quincy Adams Station MTA (1949) Type 1 Photo "Diesel train from Braintree pulling into Quincy Adams R.R. Station at 8:17 AM - Oct. 17, 1949" The Old Colony Railroad opened through Quincy in November 1845. South Quincy was a flag stop for South Braintree trains by 1848.[6] By 1857, a station was located just north of Water Street in southern Quincy. The station was known as Quincy Adams (after President John Quincy Adams, who was born nearby) by late 1866. It was officially renamed in December 1867. A stone station building was constructed in 1869; it was identical to the still-extant station at Avon, which was built around the same time. It was located on the west side of the tracks just south of Water Street. (The Old Colony had left-hand running until 1895, so the building was positioned to serve trains inbound to Boston.) The Water Street grade crossing was eliminated in 1936 by the construction of a road bridge. The work was funded by the Works Progress Administration and cost $380,000 (equivalent to $6,600,000 in 2023). State-funded construction of platform canopies and other improvements related to the crossing elimination took place in August through November 1937. The 1926 Report on Improved Transportation Facilities and 1945–47 Coolidge Commission Report recommended the Cambridge–Dorchester line receive a branch to Braintree along the Old Colony right-of-way. Quincy Adams station closed along with the rest of the Old Colony system on June 30, 1959, and was later demolished. This is a stunning photograph of the Quincy Massachusetts Quincy Adams Station MTA taken in 1949. The image captures the essence of the station and its surroundings, making it a great addition to any collection. The photograph is of high quality and is perfect for anyone interested in transportation and railroadiana in Norfolk County Mass. Ma. The image is a Type 1 photo and is sure to impress anyone who sees it. It is a great piece of history and would make a wonderful conversation starter. This photograph is perfect for collectors or anyone who appreciates the beauty of vintage transportation memorabilia.
