Description: Rare Antique Blue Onion Sago Canister w/lid Germany circa 1920. Unusual title of Sago, which is a food starch that comes from Tropical Palm Stems. I have seen cansisters that have the title Tapioca, which is also a food starch and it comes from the Cassava root, which my Gran would make into pudding. Nowdays we cook with Cassava flour because it is glutin free. Cassava is alo known as Yuca. I had no idea that the Yuca chips I have been eating for years is actually the Cassava plant. This canister is in excelelent conditon with no chips. It has some rubs and crazing that is approapriate for its age but it is white white white! The canister has a "ting" sound when tapped with pen. This looks just like the canisters that were sold by GMT Bros (Gimbels Macys Brothers) at the turn of the 20th century ( 1900-1929). My great grandmother told me they were free gift with purchase", inside a barrell of drygoods or large sack. She also used her "Pin Money" to buy the utensils, funnels, strainers, measure cups, This canister is not from her home...I am keeping family pieces.I have a huge collections of Blue Onion Canisters because for some reason I wanted every title! I have another listing : Almonds. I will be adding more items in the future weeks. Shipping included to USA. I ship once a week but if needed sooner, I will try! International ship pay for shipping : will be calculated by ebay and on the invoice.
