Description: Rare Antique Book holder / jewellery box by Howell James & Co Regent st London C 1860.A wonderful quality Burr Ash “pop up” book holder by Howell James & Co Regent st London C 1860. Decorated front and back with gilt brass chains. Complete with brass lid with inset ceramic putto brass trim on bottom front corners, red velvet interior. In totally original condition, with key, with colour and patination. Could also be used as a lady's locking jewellery case.Makers mark on the inside, found between the hinges, is: HOWELL. JAMES & CO REGENT STREET, LONDON.Approximately 8 1/4" / 21 cm long; 3 1/2" / 9 cm deep; 5" / 12.8 cm high.Good overall condition however there are some minor imperfections consistent with age and use. For example, there is very minor damage to the right hand side back near the top. Please see photos for more information.
