Description: Rare Hemingray 45 glass insulator. Embossed with "Made in U.S.A." and mold number "7 - 45:."Date code is 45:. (1948, which is 1945 followed by 3 dots.) The glass mold makers would simply machine a new dot every year into last year's mold because labor intensive machine work needed to create a new mold was costly. I find no noticeable chips on this insulator. There are 4 of the tiniest chips out of sight on the bottom rim. The 45 is classed as a “CD 155”, Introduced in 1938, discontinued in the 1960s. Primarily used for Telephone and long distance power distribution. The CD classification is part of the “consolidated design” cataloging/identification system used by insulator collectors. Each CD number is assigned to a basic shape (profile/size), regardless of the exact embossed lettering, glass color or base type.
