It is in a heavy original wooden frame with a linen trim under glass. The piece is signed in the lower right: S.M. Adler. It is very well executed with very fine brush work and use of delightful colors. Samuel (Marcus) Adler (1898-1979) was a painter and educator who studied at the National Academy of Design in NYC with Leon Kroll and Charles Louis Hinton. His preferred media was oil and collage, and he exhibited works at the Art Institute of Chicago, Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Whitney Museum of American Art, including 23 solo exhibitions. Adler was Professor of Art at New York University and the University of Illinois, and visiting professor of art at the University of Georgia.His work was at the Art Institute of Chicago, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Whitney Museum.
