In 1964 President Johnson eliminated this badge and brought about the first presidential service badge. This one is a superimposed badge, and rare because these badges had to be turned in upon completion of a tour of duty. In excellent original condition. A rarity of a badge, this is a very heavy pocket badge. Badge can easily be removed from the case if desired. Additional photos available upon request. * 1960-1964 Kennedy and Johnson Eras White House Service Badge. Used 1960 through 1964 before being replaced by the Presidential Service badge. The badge measures 2 ¼ inches in diameter. The badge has threes stud style pins on the back that are still intact. The White House Service Badge was a short lived military insignia which was issued between the years of 1960 and 1964 for United States armed forces military personnel stationed at the White House in a variety of duties. The badge was worn as a part of the uniform of those individuals, during the period of their detail to White House duty, under such regulations as the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, with the approval of the Secretary of Defense. President Lyndon B. Johnson retired the White House Service Badge just after four years, and created a separate Presidential Service Badge (with different award criteria) by signing Executive Order 11174.
