Description: This is a vintage antique sample of wire fencing. This sample features a John F. Scutt patent, dated September 12, 1882. This wire is called "Scutt's Four Point Cast Metal Center Channeled Barb" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 703-B). This wire features two round line wires twisted together. Barbs are four pointed made from a center channeled cast iron ribbon. Center of barbs are further split and points bent into opposing directions. Edges of barbs are rounded, and barbs have some horizontal scoring on sides of rounded portion. Wire strand is 18" in length. Wire sample shows light to moderate pitting. There are four barbs, which are well spaced, and cut is well centered. There are no bent, broken or missing points. Wire is in very good used condition.
