STANLEY No.4 SMOOTH SOLE TYPE 11 1910-1918 "COMPLETELY GONE THROUGH & TUNED"

Description: RESTORED & TUNED STANLEY No.4 TYPE 11 SMOOTH SOLE PLANE 1910 - 1918 9-3/8" long , 2-3/8 wide , cutter 2" wide The body and frog were cleaned very well then japanning on both was waxed. All the hardware was cleaned and treated with rust inhibitor then oiled. The Rosewood Tote & knob are very nice. Both were cleaned then waxed several times to get a very smooth natural finish. I had to repair the tote its very solid and looks great. I always opt to repair vintage Stanley wood if possible before making a replacement. I feel using the vintage Stanley wood is just as important as any part of the plane to keep them authentic. Absolutely nothing wrong with a well done repair. Sole was lapped. All lapping is done by hand on a granite slab. Cheeks were lapped and the rail's were cleaned and smoothed out. Frog face & seats lapped. Frog face is lapped back with a ruff surface which it should be just like when it came out of the factory with a ruff machined surface. Its very important not to have a smooth surface on the face and seat. Cap iron was cleaned and lapped. The Cutter was lapped and sharpened. Its extremely sharp and cuts superb shavings leaving a very smooth finish on the wood surface. The Lever cap was cleaned then lapped at its contact point.This is a superb working plane that will be a asset to any work shop or collection.
