US Army Campaigns of World War II - Ardennes-Alsace

Description: Offered for auction here is the booklet entitled "Ardennes-Alsace". In the final year of World War II, Germany made an aggressive move to attack Allied forces in Western Europe. Germany secretly positioned troops, many of them the final reserve elements of its army, in western Germany adjacent the Ardennes Forest and Alsace, These German troops began their surprise assault on December 16, 1944 and caught the Allies completely unaware. Led by Germany Field Marshalls Gerd von Rundstedt and Walter Model, the Germans, which had large numbers of Panzer divisions, maneuvered through heavily wooded areas and pushed back the Allies. This campaign is often called the "Battle of the Bulge", descriptive of the penetration made by German forces into Allied lines. Offered for auction here is the booklet entitled "Ardennes-Alsace". In the final year of World War II, Germany made an aggressive move to attack Allied forces in Western Europe and repel the advancing armies of the US, Britain, France, Canada and other nations. Germany secretly positioned troops, many of them the final reserve elements of its army, in western Germany adjacent the Ardennes Forest and Alsace, which bordered Germany on the Rhine River. These German troops began their surprise assault on December 16, 1944 and caught the Allies completely unaware. This booklet describes in detail the German assault, the on-going battle, and the Allied repulse to re-secure the area. A failure for Germany, this battle effectively forecast the end of the German regime. Featured in the publication are some fantastic color maps, to include (a) the Battleground on December 15th, (b) the positioning of forces along the Ardennes on the day of the attack, (c) the West Wall , or Monschau-Habschide Zone, (d) Wacht Am Rhein, German army positions on the Rhine in mid-December, (e) Operation Nordwind, the beginning of the repulse of German armies, (f) Erasing the Bulge, the Allied counterattack, and (g) the Colmar Pocket, a strong German area of fortification which hosted a fierce and prolonged battle.   This publication, which contains 54 pages, is in excellent, virtual mint, condition. There are no rips or tears, no writing or markings, no spills or smears, and the binding is secure with all pages firmly in place.     Get images that make Supersized seem small.Showcase your items with Auctiva's Listing Templates!
