Description: This captivating oil on canvas of a rather serious young blonde boy in blue wool zip-up and tartan tie measures 28 1/2" x 23 3/8" framed; 25" x 20" actual and is inscribed/signed reverse Katherine Voigtlander 1935. Katherine Voigtlander (1917-2011) was born in New Jersey and received her BFA from the University of Pennsylvania. She Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts as well as the Kansas City Art Institute and was a pupil of Thomas Hart Benton. Her travels and studies took her to Europe and Mexico and she was the recipient of numerous awards in the 1930's and 40's. Her style blends Social Realism with American modernism which made her style ideal for book illustrations in the 1950's-60's. The present work has rich texture and depth with occasionally heavily applied paint and areas of naked canvas. The work is in fine, untouched estate condition with some surface dirt and a small loss upper left. The paint is stable and the canvas is a bit slack on its stretcher. Its current frame is a ca. 35 year old metal leaf with lovely antiqued finish. WE ARE ALWAYS HAPPY TO SHIP WORLDWIDE IF ALLOWED BY USPS. Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
