Vintage-33+ Grams-Faceted Cherry Amber Bakelite-Graduated Beaded-25" Necklace

Please come back often, as we are always buying more goodies to list on ebay. This listing is for a rare, high coveted, cherry amber Bakelite necklace. This necklace weighs 33.04 grams and measures 25 inches in length. It's made with faceted, round, cherry amber Bakelite beads, strung in a graduated order, with the largest at the center, measuring about 20 mm in diameter, and smallest at the ends, measuring about 6.5 mm. The necklace is finished with a screw style clasp hidden inside the Bakelite. The beads are fascinating to study. When you compare the beads on one side of the necklace with their counterparts on the other side, you can see the differences in them and that they are not completely uniform in size or facet placement. This is indicative of hand faceting, which is how faceted Bakelite beads were done. Instead of molding the facets by pouring liquid plastic into a mold, Bakelite is made in chunks with beads shaped from individual nuggets. The other method used to make Bakelite beads is to cut the chunks into layers and press or laminate the layers together. The beads used to make this necklace are faceted from chunks, which is more common than beads created through layering. I do have another cherry amber, Bakelite necklace in which the beads are made from layering sliced Bakelite, which I will be listing it soon. It is much rarer and I am researching a bit more before listing. Anyhow, this necklace is simply gorgeous and in excellent vintage condition. The only flaw in regard to its condition is that the string has stretched a little over the years and as a result there's about a quarter-of-an-inch slack.
