Description: Striking and stylish vintage Japanese cast and patinated bronze usubata, vessel for ikebana flower arranging, early to mid-20th century, Japan. The vessel is supposed to have (missing) a sections on top with a circular form with a deep well that nests into the tall stand. The tall stand is shaped like a goblet, with a splayed foot tapering upwards to support the deep cup. A pair of handles of geometric Greek key design grace the sides of the vases. The juxtaposition of the round vessel and the straight lines of the handles takes cues from Art Deco design and creates a wonderful balance of form. The bronze patinated with a complex and mottled verdigris. Small dent to bottom rim.
