Description: THANKS FOR CHECKING OUT MY AUCTION. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION AND MY POLICIES BEFORE PLACING YOUR BID.Check out my other items!Be sure to add me to your favorites list! This listing is for a vintage "Selmer New York" curved Bb soprano saxophone. This was a 'stencil' made for Selmer USA by Buescher. It is essentially a series II True Tone. The serial number 85529 is most likely a Buescher number, which would place its date of manufacture in c.1921. It is low pitch, the desired tuning for modern use. It is keyed only up to high Eb, which is typical for sopranos of that era. This horn comes in satin gold plate finish, which is pretty rare for a stencil sax. The engraving is more extensive (it extends onto the bow), and more intricate than what is found on a typical Buescher soprano from this era, let alone a stencil. What is really interesting though is that it has the original owner's name (Kenneth L. Baker) engraved on the bell/bow connection ring! I don't think he was anyone famous, but it is cool, nonetheless. As someone who personally plays vintage horns, I've often wondered about who owned them before me. Even just knowing the name adds a unique personal connection. This horn is being sold as is. I am able to play it top to bottom in its current state, but it definitely isn't in proper playing condition. This is due primarily to old pads (many of them are the original white 'pillow' pads) and improper adjustment. For optimum playability this will require a full overhaul. In my opinion, this is definitely deserving of a high-quality overhaul. Please read on for details, check out the pictures, and if in doubt as questions! This sax is in very good physical condition. The body is straight. The neck is not bent down. There are no dents or dings. I don't even see any pings or tiny nicks. The curvature of the bow guard has not been distorted. The rim of the bell has not been bent. I don't see any pushed in posts. I don't see any resoldered joints. The keys are all moving freely, and the rollers are all turning. The gold plate finish is heavily tarnished but appears to be almost fully intact. The pads/corks are definitely shot. This horn comes in its original case. The case is in generally good condition. The only significant issue is that one of the hinges is broken. If you fixed/replaced that it would be quite useable. Of course, it shows normal wear and tear, but it isn't coming apart at the joints, and it isn't particularly musty inside. At first, I thought the lid of the accessory compartment was loose, then I realized it is supposed to just lift off and set back in place rather than be attached like on most other cases. This case even comes with its original skeleton key! There is no mouthpiece, nor any other accessories included. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Thanks again for looking! 01/12/25-1-F
